Freshwater aquariums are high in demand!
Aquarium Architecture noticed a great increase in the demand of freshwater tanks in the last year. Specialising in luxury fish tanks for exquisite properties, Aquarium Architecture has installed numerous aquariums around the world.
Last year, for the first time, we had more freshwater aquariums requests than saltwater ones, says Roland Horne, the creative director of Aquarium Architecture. The saltwater aquariums are considered the pinnacle in aquarium keeping and more often than not the choice for the super rich.
So the question is why the change in preference? We consider that freshwater aquariums have been put in a bad light compared to the saltwater ones, Roland says. Clients think that freshwater aquariums are dull and not as exciting and exquisite like the saltwater ones. However, the incline towards nature and natural colours in interior design that we saw in 2014 and will dominate 2015, opened the doors for the freshwater tanks in the luxurious mansions.
With freshwater aquariums, the aquascape needs to be perfect and requires good visual and spatial skills. We always recommend natural plants instead of fake ones in order to create a high end set up. The freshwater tanks are also less demanding, less sensitive than the saltwater ones. They require fewer maintenance visits, and a reduced amount of possible issues.
The fish are hardy and their characters are very likeable. In addition, the set up is more tranquil and you can still have beautiful colourful fish.
